California mandates that all garage door openers must be equipped with a batter backup starting on July 1, 2019. Senate Bill 969 sailed through the California State Senate with a vote of 39-0. This past August the California Assembly passed the bill with a 64-7 vote. The bill came as a result of the 2017 California wildfires that left some people trapped in their garages.
